ATM withdrawals and currency exchange
On Standard, Revolut charges no fee for up to 5 withdrawals or 800 lei a month, whichever comes first. After that the fee is 2% of the amount, at least 5 lei. The ATM owner may add its own charge.
On Standard you can exchange up to 5,000 lei a month without a fee; above that a 1% fair-usage fee applies. Exchanges made at the weekend, from Friday evening to Sunday evening New York time, cost another 1%, so a large payment in another currency is cheaper on a working day.
Deposit protection
Revolut Bank UAB is a Lithuanian bank. Under Directive 2014/49/EU, deposits held at a branch of a bank from another EU country are covered by the home country's scheme, not by Romania's FGDB. The limit is the same across the EU: 100,000 euro per person per bank. Investments and crypto in the app are not deposits and are not covered.
What to compare it with
Revolut is a debit card: you spend money you already hold. For instalments or an interest-free period, look at credit cards. For savings, set the Revolut rate against term deposits from banks in Romania.
