Romania's fast credit market grew significantly after the pandemic. The NBR Financial Stability Report from June 2024 (p. 47) shows the number of registered non-bank financial institutions (IFN) rose from 187 in 2019 to 213 in 2024. Total volume of consumer loans under 10,000 lei from non-bank lenders passed 2.3 billion lei in 2025, 38% above 2022.
The problem: not all non-bank lenders are equal. APR ranges from 36% to over 400%, repayment from 5 days to 36 months, and approval criteria vary. We analysed 7 of the most active fast credit platforms in 2026 by checking official sites between 9 and 14 June 2026.

Regulatory protection
All 7 lenders are registered with the NBR Special Register under Law 93/2009. They must respect APR caps in GEO 50/2010, provide the Standard European Consumer Credit Information (SECCI) sheet, your 14-day withdrawal right, and the NBR 40%-of-income debt limit.
If a lender refuses to provide a personalised SECCI or pushes you to sign, you can report to ANPC. SAL-FIN offers free mediation for disputes with non-bank lenders.
Lesson from 8 years at three lenders
Bogdan Baicu, former consultant at three local non-bank lenders 2014-2022: "My favorite case for public education is a woman I helped in 2019 at Provident in Iași. She needed 2,300 lei for an urgent car repair. She wanted to sign on the spot. I paused the process and showed her what APR 89% over 12 months meant: 487 lei interest over 2,300 lei capital. I suggested she check her current bank (BCR) for a personal loan instead. Next day she had approval at 11.2% APR over 24 months, monthly 108 lei, total interest 292 lei. She saved 195 lei and avoided a recurring line of credit."
