The fast-credit market in 2026 is crowded: 14 non-bank lenders (IFNs) in the BNR registry, APRs from 0% promotional to 2,030%, amounts from 100 to 100,000 lei. This guide condenses the decision into five minutes: the right product per need, what to check on the SECCI, when a bank is cheaper, which traps cost money.
Three questions that frame the decision
How many lei, over how many days or months, and how urgent. Combined, they point to a product category.
Under 3,000 lei, under 30 days, urgent: a promotional IFN. Acredit first loan 0% for 15 days or CreditPrime 30 days interest-free, both for new clients. Between 3,000 and 8,000 lei, 3-12 months: IFN comparison on the exact profile. Above 8,000 lei, 12-36 months: bank first; IFN only after a refusal.
Fast-credit categories in 2026
Category 1: IFNs with promotional APR. Acredit first loan 15 days at 0%, CreditPrime first 30 days interest-free. The only cost-free loans on the market, valid strictly for new clients and the advertised period. See how the 0% first-loan promotion works.
Category 2: IFNs with standard APR of 28-769%. Hora Credit 35% promotional, CreditDa 34%, Cashspace 36% (comparison model), Esketit 11.85% (P2P platform). This bracket serves most applicants: 1,000 to 10,000 lei, short terms. See the Hora-Viva-Acredit comparison and the top 7 IFNs of 2026.
Category 3: IFNs with APR above 300%. Avinto 365%, BSG 846%, Economo 2,030%, SafeCredit 769%. Such rates appear on large amounts, long terms or high-risk profiles. The market's most expensive options, justified in one scenario only: score below 480, refusals from 2-3 banks, deadline under 24 hours. When the bank is cheaper
The analysts' rule: documented income above 1,700 lei plus a score above 500 gets 8-14% APR on a bank personal loan. Over 12 months, 5,000 lei costs roughly 213 lei in bank interest; a standard-APR IFN charges 800 to 12,000 lei, depending on profile. See the full bank vs IFN analysis.
Bogdan Băicu, 11 years across IFNs and banks, former Kiwi Finance broker and TBI credit advisor: "I keep seeing people go straight to an IFN without checking the bank, because they 'know for sure' they'll be rejected. In 60-70% of cases the bank accepts them, with conditions or a smaller amount. On 5,000 lei over 12 months, the IFN-bank gap is 500 to 700 lei. A few hours checking with BCR or ING are almost always worth it."
The five documents to request before signing
No contract should be signed without all five in hand.
1) SECCI personalised to the exact amount and term. 2) Month-by-month amortisation schedule. 3) Total cost in lei, not just the APR. 4) Early-repayment clauses. 5) Late-payment penalty clauses. See how to read the SECCI correctly.
The three traps that cost people money
Rolling over. An 800 lei loan for 15 days costs 67 lei; after 3 rollovers the cumulative cost reaches 287 lei, or 35% of the amount for 60 days. The ANPC 2024 report, p. 31, finds 42% of enforcement proceedings originate in repeated rollovers.
Confusing interest with APR. Adverts push "1.5% interest per day" without saying the real APR is 547%. APR includes all fixed costs, the only valid comparison basis. See the full APR explainer.
Underestimating the term. Many sign for 24 months to get a lower instalment. At 38% APR, 5,000 lei over 12 months costs 844 lei in interest; over 24 months, 1,722 lei, double. The right term is the shortest the budget can absorb.
Borrower rights at any IFN
Every borrower has 14 calendar days from signing to withdraw without giving a reason. OUG 50/2010 caps early-repayment fees: 1% with more than 12 months remaining, 0.5% below that. See the full ANPC rights and the BNR debt-to-income rules.
Decide in 60 seconds
Under 3,000 lei, under 30 days, urgent: the 0% promotion first. Between 3,000 and 8,000 lei over 3-12 months: comparison on the exact profile. Above 8,000 lei over 12-36 months: bank first. Score below 500 or several bank refusals: standard-APR IFN, the only practical route. No clear repayment plan: no loan, bank or IFN.
